Hi Art; Meet Davey

I created Davey for the High Art competition set up by Juxtapose Magazine and Natural Cannabis Company.

I found out about the competition 3 days before the deadline (March 20th) and convinced myself it was a good idea.
The brief was to create a psychedelic image.
Do you think I succeeded?

Davey began as a doodle in my sketchbook and continued as a loose digital sketch that pretty much showed me where I wanted to go, while still leaving space enough for improvisation- which is always the best part.

Stage 2 was placing paint upon canvas. This was probably the stage I had the most fun with, until I realised that I had under 36 hours left and the paint wasn't quite drying quick enough.

Also, IRL, there is no CTRL-Z.

Which, I've found, is a bummer.

I think the final image is successful because I allowed myself to let go of some of the pressure I was holding onto when I started the painting. After a long time having not picked up a paintbrush, I was fretting about being unable to get my vision down as I was imagining it.

As soon as I stopped being quite so precious with it all, however, it all kinda started to come together. Funny that.
