LIMPET
A short story COLLABORATIVELY constructed
during a writing workshop I lead at the AUBSU Writing Society.
The old man was looking for his hat. This was not easy because it was the
colour of sand, and the sea was so loud that he kept getting distracted.
The last time he saw his hat, his grandson was wearing it. The last time he
saw his grandson, the boy was with his dad.
“I could have sworn they were by the ice cream van,” he muttered into his
white beard.
“Are you alright sir?” asked a voice from behind.
“I’m fine… I’m fine…” he waved his hand and shuffled away into the crowd, wondering what shopping centre security was doing on the beach.
Every sentence had to move the story along, reveal a little back story. Have a function. Each aspect was chosen by a different writer, such as the setting, character, and plot point.
Together we discussed, planned and composed until we had this little gem; the Limpet who was a tad lost.
